This site offers a diverse and beautiful landscape. It's going to be a joy to paint!
"Welcome to Spur Cross Ranch Conservation Area. The newest addition to Maricopa County's Regional Parks System, the conservation area encompasses 2,154 acres of diverse, rugged upper Sonoran Desert.
The north Valley location contains fascinating archaeology sites and lush riparian areas along Cave Creek, which flows throughout the winter months. Remnants of early mining and ranching, from which the park gets its name, are still apparent in the park. This area is a must see for all wildflower lovers in the spring. The abundant vegetation present in the conservation area provides a rich habitat for a diverse assemblage of wildlife."
When you reach the address, 44000 N. Spur Cross Road, Cave Creek, AZ, keep going. Follow the road to the Preserve - after the Spur Cross Stables. Parking is on the right. You can paint from the parking lot, if you like, or walk 4 to 5 minutes, to the entrance. There is a $3.00 fee and a ramada and porta-potties just inside the entrance. We'll meet there, but feel free to spread out along the trails. There's something to paint nearly every place you look. You might want to cull your supplies down to the bare necessities as rewards await anyone willing to walk, even a little way, into the preserve. Be sure to bring water.
See you in the pictures!
