The intersection of Arizona's timeless natural landscape and the dynamic, ever-changing cities and towns throughout the state, is the central theme of this show. It is a unique juxtaposition of wilderness and civilization, the space that exists where humans and nature meet.

Jurors of Entry

We have assembled a panel of three jurors who will be responsible for making the final selection:

Casey Cheuvront

Casey Cheuvront is an artist, who draws inspiration from her extensive outdoor experiences and a lifelong connection to the natural world. Her vibrant artworks reflect her fascination with the Western and Southwestern wilderness, showcasing landscapes ranging from local trails to remote lakes accessible only by backpacking. Casey often leads workshops and demos at the Sonoran Arts League. Casey is represented by the Sedona Arts Center in Uptown Sedona and Legends of the West in Santa Fe, NM.

Anton Nowels

Anton Nowels is an artist known for his expertise in color theory and exploration of various painting techniques. He is a workshop instructor at Scottsdale Artists' School, Winslow Art Center, and the Tubac School of Fine Art. His award winning works have been exhibited nationally. Anton is represented by the Maynard Dixon Legacy Museum in Mt. Carmel, UT.

Paul Steele - Vice President of APAP

Paul Steele is an artist with a passion for painting the western landscape, en plein air. With a professional art career spanning commercial illustration and fine art, Paul has been represented in numerous galleries and has studied under esteemed painters such as T.A. Lawson, Bob Lemler, Kevin MacPherson, Laura Robb, Peggy Kroll, Ray Roberts, Len Schmiel, Matt Smith and others. Paul is a workshop instructor at Scottsdale Artists' School. Catch him painting at Western Spirit: Scottsdale's Museum of the West on July 18th and every following Tuesday through August 2023.

Judge of Awards

The awards for this exhibition will be determined by our esteemed judge:

Gretchen Lopez

Gretchen Lopez, a tenth-generation native of California with roots in the Chumash and Apache, is an artist whose work is deeply influenced by her ethnic heritage as a descendant of the first Spanish settlers and the California Rancheros. With a background in advertising, design, and fashion illustration, she combines traditional and contemporary elements to express vibrant colors and spontaneity in her paintings of landscapes and Native and Hispanic peoples. Based in Northern Arizona, Gretchen has received recognition for her art education contributions and has her works featured in private collections, galleries, and exhibits, including the prestigious Phippen Museum of Western Art.

Gretchen has taught at the Sedona Arts Center for over 15 years. She has exciting workshops lined up, including a plein air workshop in Guanajuato, MX from September 17-22, 2023, an oil sketching workshop at Tlaquepaque in Sedona on October 5th-6th, 2023, and a plein air workshop in the San Joaquin Valley of California on October 9-11, 2023. Gretchen Lopez is represented by The Wyatt Gallery, the Sedona Arts Center, and the Adelante Gallery.

Terms & Conditions

The event organizers have the discretion to accept or reject any artwork submitted for consideration.

By submitting artwork, the artist grants the event organizers the right to reproduce the artwork for promotional purposes related to the event, such as in promotional graphics on the APAP website and social media channels.

If your artwork is selected, you agree to deliver it to the specified locations within the designated timeframe and to collect any unsold artwork at the end of the event.

Liabilities & Responsibilities

APAP & the mood room will not be responsible for loss or damage of any artwork. By submitting artwork to this exhibition, each artist will be deemed to have concurred with this agreement.


About the venue

The mood room is a contemporary art gallery located in downtown Phoenix that focuses on promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion in the arts. It offers immersive exhibitions and events that engage the community and educational programs to support artists and art enthusiasts.

ArtLink is a nonprofit arts organization that connects artists, organizations, and the public through various events and resources, and advocates for the arts at the local and state level. The mood room partners with ArtLink, and together they work to promote the arts and culture in Phoenix by providing support and resources to local artists and holding events and exhibitions.

Sales

The mood room will handle all sales of artwork during the exhibition and will retain a commission of 30% on all artwork sold. Artists who sell their artwork during the exhibition will be required to complete a W9 form and submit an invoice for payout. Once all necessary documentation is received from the artist, the payout process takes approximately 7-10 days.
