Jane Barton - Field Thumbnails And More: Take Your Paintings To The Next Level
Artist Edgar Payne wrote a book called “Composition of Outdoor Painting" and it’s been a real game changer for so many artists. A few thoughtful minutes spent before diving into a painting in the field can make a huge difference in your result. We’ll go over design and composition tips that will immediately boost your confidence and success, both in the field and in the studio, too. I’ll bring in some of my paintings and the sketches I used to plan them and also demonstrate some new ones. This is an investment that costs nothing but yields huge returns!
ARTIST OF THE MONTH
The Artist of the Month competition is restricted to APAP members only. If you'd like to participate, please, bring one plein air painting, (framed and ready to hang), to enter each month. Your fellow artists will vote, confidentially, during the meeting for their favorite. The winner will receive a ribbon, a $25 cash prize, and be entered into the Artist of the Year Competition. Artist of the Year will be awarded at our Members Show and will receive a larger cash prize. We will feature Artists of the Month and Year on our website. This will be a short year, with the competition starting in October, but next year the competition will start in May and will run from May to May.
CRITIQUE
Only APAP Members may submit paintings for critique. If you need a little help with a plein air or landscape painting? Bring it in for critique! We will have one or two "official" critiquers with possibly a little help from the audience. I know critiques can be scary, but they can also lead to great growth. Sometimes, we just don't know what we don't know and a fresh set of eyes can make all the difference in our work.
MEMBERSHIP
If you would like to become a member of Arizona Plein Air Painters you may do so here.
Light refreshments will be served.
